Sealants
A Little Extra Protection Goes a Long Way
Sometimes brushing just isn't enough — especially for those hard-to-reach spots in the back of your child's mouth. The tiny cracks and grooves on teeth can be nearly impossible to clean thoroughly, and over time those areas can develop decay. That's where sealants come in.
What Are Sealants?
Dental sealants are a thin plastic resin that bonds to the surface of the tooth, filling in all those tiny grooves and making the surface smooth and much easier to clean. With sealants in place, brushing becomes more effective and decay has a lot less room to hide.
Who Needs Them?
Sealants are most commonly applied once your child's permanent teeth have come in, as a proactive step against cavities. While baby teeth can be sealed in certain cases, our team will always recommend what makes the most sense for your child's unique needs.
Watch the Sugar
A balanced diet goes a long way for healthy teeth. Swap sugary snacks for tooth-friendly options like raw veggies, cheese, plain yogurt, or fresh fruit. Your child's smile will thank you.
How Long Do They Last?
Sealants typically last three to five years, though it's not uncommon to see them holding strong well into adulthood. Just keep in mind that a sealant only works when it's fully intact — if one chips or comes off, give us a call and we'll get it taken care of right away.
